Session 3
24 & 25 February 2014
After equipping the students with "Tableau" and "Mime" skills, the trainers next introduced "Improvisation". It is an important drama skill which can also be applied in our daily lives. After a brief theory lesson, they took part in a warmup exercise; the students were made to stand facing one another, playing the traditional game of "Scissors, Paper and Stone". The only difference was that they were supposed to shape their bodies according to the object that they want. They had fun and were able to understand the concept better through the game. To further enhance their grasp on the concept of improvisation, they were next made to sit in a circle. A regular whiteboard marker was passed from one student to another, which they have to pretend to be something else altogether. The rest had to guess correctly what the item was supposed to be. In the final 30 minutes, the students were made to break up into their respective groups and rehearse a specific scene from the play. Journal-writing was reserved for the last 10 minutes of the session.
